5 tips that every new sunday school teacher needs to hear!!

Let me first congratulate you on your new position as a "Sunday school teacher." You now have the opportunity to minister to the next generation of followers and leaders. I hope and pray that you do an awesome job.

So, now let's move on to the tips:

1. Keep the focus on God: Position means power used in the right way can be very useful. But, when we fill ourselves with pride (for example I did it, all about me me me) then it can lead to the downfall of your ministry work. Humble yourself and put God first and watch the blessing come down.

2. Read your Bible: The bible is filled with an abundance of knowledge and wisdom. Even till our last breath we still won't fully understand it. Never think you know everything cause you don't and won't. Ask for help if you don't know something about the bible.... it's okay trust me we all do.

3. Pray for those you teach: Pray for the children, youth or adults that you teach for their wellbeing, understanding, family and what God wants you to teach them.

4. Be yourself: Don't act like someone else instead be yourself. And teach what you like for example: if you love singing then do that......if you're not a crafty person then don't emphasize it so much.

5. It's okay if things don't work out according to our plans: Planned the most awesome lesson in the world or so you thought. Only to find it not going according to plan, yes it happens even to the well seasoned among us. Don't worry...….learn from your mistake and grow from there...….no one is perfect it'll be better next time.

Is the name Sunday school outdated in modern churches?

If you have the same question, then I’m glad you stopped by this blog. Interestingly, some churches have opted out of the name “Sunday school” and replaced it with “children’s ministry.” Or something more captivating such as Route 66 or Kidmin. So, why change the name if the ministry concept is still the same as before?

It may have something to do with making things appealing for the children so, parents can encourage them to attend church. Some reluctant kids may hide under the covers when they hear the words “Sunday school”. I mean kids already attend 5 days of regular school a week and any more might be dreadful or boring to them. I think I had the same thought when I was a little kid and my parents encouraged me to attend.

What’s more important is does these changes take away from the biblical teaching that has been provided in the past? If the sound truth of the biblical doctrine remains the highest priority then, it's fine. Also, with all the changes and upgrades (lights, decorations, sign-up stations, entertainment, and prizes) does it  lead to decrease teaching we may have some problems to address.

Previously children had ministry catered to them on Sundays but, as times have changed more time is spent towards them with weekday and Saturday services added. If parents are willing to bring them to these services, then it's awesome to have more time to fellowship with God.
